From the Founder, Elliott Hedman
For the last 7 years, I’ve been working with struggling readers across Denver, building a new solution to learning to read. For many kids, raised in an iPad Generation, books failed to be stimulating and made them feel like failures. Working with a diverse group of struggling readers at the Boys & Girls Club, we invented Wonder.io - a new way to learn to read. With Wonder.io, kids are given stimulating questions about every 30 seconds - making comprehension relevant and important. I’ve had students on the first day of class tell me “reading sucks”, but after a semester using Wonder.io parents are told to wait in the car until they finish their book. We’ve had 4th graders that are 3 years behind read for over an hour and complain when they have to stop.
Wonder.io represents the future of combining learning, reading, and play together and this afterschool program is our first step in making a sizable impact in Denver student's life. Our research on Wonder.io shows that interactive texts are the future of reading, but we now have the momentous task of bringing the intervention to real readers in classrooms. By joining this program in the first year you will be helping us take the first step in changing how reading is taught. Helping kids love to read is our mission, and you will be employee number 1 in making this happen. Thank you.
